During the course of this month, officers of the Tybee Island Police Department made a total of 61 arrests. The following chart breaks down each CHARGE into the appropriate category.

(It’s important to note that many arrests include more than one charge, which accounts for the discrepancy in numbers.)

  • Of the traffic related incidents, 14 involved the suspect driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Misdemeanors included, but were not limited to:

  • Simple Battery (x3)

  • Public Drunkenness (x6)

  • Disorderly Conduct (x6)

  • Obstruction of Law Enforcment (x4)

Felonies included, but were not limited to:

  • Aggravated Assault (x2)

  • Theft by Receiving Stolen Property (x5)

  • Armed Robbery (x1)

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (x4)

During the drug related incidents, officers of the Tybee Island Police Department encountered quantities of suspected Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Fentanyl and Psilocybin (Hallucinogenic Mushrooms).

In addition, during the course of these arrests, officers were able to successfully recover the following:

Stolen Vehicles: 2

Stolen Firearms: 3

(NOTE: There were no discernible patterns in criminal activity this month.)

Officers also responded to 1,501 calls for service. Overall, Saturdays were the busiest days of the week, with the single busiest day of the month taking place on Saturday, April 22, 2023. That day fell within the unpermitted “Orange Crush” event, and saw officers either initiate or respond to 130 incidents. At the time, there were an estimated 50,000 people on the island.
