One of our officers stopped a vehicle for making an improper left turn.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man denied drinking.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Improper Left Turn, Seatbelt Violation, Driving While License Suspended, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

While on patrol, one of our officers was flagged down about a man lying in the middle of Highway 80, causing vehicles to swerve around him.
While checking the area, the officer found a man walking along the solid white “fog line” of the highway. Closer inspection revealed that the man had grass and dirt in his hair and clothes, consistent with the earlier report. As officers attempted to speak with the man, he refused to answer basic questions such as his name, or whether or not he was “ok”. Instead, he simply looked at officers with his arms crossed across his chest. Left with no other options, our team placed the man under arrest and charged him with Pedestrian in the Roadway and Obstruction.

Officers responded to the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion in reference to a man who was reportedly harassing bystanders and following women back to their hotels.
While checking the area, one officer encountered a man who was cussing loudly and waving his arms in an erratic manner. When asked to identify himself, the man repeatedly refused. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Obstruction.
Once the man was in handcuffs, several witnesses came forward to confirm that he was the subject of the original call. A report was filed, and the man was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center.

While on patrol, one of our officers was flagged down about an older man who had been seen walking in the median of Highway 80.
After locating the man, the officer learned that he was trying to get to “Woodville”. A short time later, two employees of a local nursing home arrived on scene and stated that the man had walked away from their facility. He was subsequently returned to their care, and no further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to maintain its lane.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through her open window. When asked, the woman admitted to having “a couple of beers” several hours prior.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, and DUI (Less Safe).

An officer stopped a vehicle for a “Hands Free Violation”.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot. There was also an odor similar to that of an adult beverage billowing from within her car. When asked about the last time she consumed alcohol, the woman claimed that it had been “several days”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with a Hands-Free Violation, Expired Registration, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

While on patrol, one of our officers found a man sleeping outside of a closed business. Upon closer inspection, the officer recognized the man as someone who had previously been warned about the city ordinance against sleeping in public and loitering outside of local stores.
He was then placed under arrest and charged with Loitering and Prowling.

Officers responded to an address on Kingry Street in reference to possible harassment.
While speaking with our team, the caller stated that an individual had driven past their house and honked a “train horn” on more than one occasion.
Officers then made contact with the owner of the vehicle, who stated that they honked at another car, and agreed to no longer honk their horn in the area. A report was filed and no further action was taken during that time.

Officers responded to a house on Meddin Drive in reference to someone throwing a bottle at a vehicle.
While speaking with our team, the caller stated that they found broken glass around the rear of their vehicle. A review of doorbell footage showed a man in a sedan stop in front of the house and throw two bottles before driving away.
A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

A concerned citizen came to the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to a key fob they found near 19th Street.
One of our officers then took custody of the fob and placed it into a property locker for safekeeping. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers responded to a local motel in reference to found property.
Upon his arrival, motel staff gave the officer a handgun that had been left behind by a previous guest. The officer then transported the weapon to the Tybee Island Police Department, where it was placed into an evidence locker for safekeeping.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.
