One of our officers stopped a vehicle for a noise violation.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were red and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his window, and an open container in plain view. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man admitted to “a couple of drinks” about two hours prior to the stop.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Loud Music from Vehicle, No License on Person, Open Container, and DUI (.08 or more).

While conducting extra patrol, officers discovered a man inside of a house that was supposed to be vacant. After speaking with the homeowner, our team placed the man under arrest and charged him with Criminal Trespass.

An officer responded to River’s End Campground in reference to a noise complaint. According to the caller, the suspects were drinking and playing “loud metal music”, which had disturbed their grandchild’s sleep.

Upon his arrival at the campsite in question, the officer found a woman sitting quietly by the fire. She admitted to playing music earlier that evening but stated that she was about to go to sleep. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for a window tint violation.

While talking to the 20-year-old driver, the officer spotted a nicotine vape and smelled the odor of marijuana wafting through his open window. When confronted about the fact that he wasn’t old enough to legally vape, the driver claimed that it wasn’t his.

During a search of the vehicle based on probable cause, the officer found marijuana, a disassembled AR-15 rifle, and a handgun. A subsequent check of the handgun’s serial number revealed that it had been reported stolen. The driver was then placed under arrest and charged with a Window Tint Violation, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property (Felony), and Bringing Stolen Property into the State.

Officers responded to the Tybee Island Pier in reference to an argument between fishermen.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned that one fisherman was upset because he believed others had cut his line.

A report was filed, the parties were separated, and no further action was taken at that time.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling the wrong way on a one way street.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were “glossy” and watery. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man admitted to “one shot of Tequila” about an hour before the stop.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way, Seatbelt Violation, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

Shortly thereafter, another officer stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to maintain its lane.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an adult beverage billowing through his open window. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man claimed that he “never drinks”.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, and DUI (Less Safe).

Just after midnight, one of our officers spotted a golf cart driving down Butler Avenue with no headlights.

After stopping the cart, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes were bloodshot, and that there were several open containers of alcohol in the cart’s cupholders. During the course of their conversation, the driver became defensive and accused Tybee police officers of “Hunting people down”.

A subsequent investigation revealed additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the cart while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Use Headlights After Dark, Golf Cart Violations, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

Just before 4:00 AM, one of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that there was an infant child improperly restrained in the back seat. When asked if he had any alcohol that evening, the man indicated “no”.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, No Driver’s License, Child Safety Seat Violation, DUI (Less Safe) and Endangering a Child While DUI.
