An officer responded to the beach near 19th Street in reference to a vehicle stuck in the sand. A tow truck was summoned to remove the vehicle from the beach, and the owner of the vehicle was cited accordingly.

One of our officers responded to River’s End Campground in reference to a possible theft.

While speaking with our teammate, the victim stated that someone had stolen a brown leather pouch containing that had been left outside of his tent.

A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Two of the attendees at Tybee Island Municipal Court had active warrants through other jurisdictions. As a result, they were placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for their non-local warrants.

One of our officers was at the traffic circle, located at the intersections of Tybrisa and Strand, when he spotted an employee of Spanky’s running in his direction. Upon reaching the officer, the man informed him that there was a golf cart on fire in front of the restaurant.

After following the man back to the scene of the incident, the officer found that the golf cart’s dashboard was engulfed in flames. Out of concern for the other vehicles parked in close proximity, the officer asked the man to retrieve water from inside of the restaurant. Two employees then took turns relaying pitchers of water, which the officer used to control the flames.

A short time later, another officer arrived on scene with a fire extinguisher, which was used to successfully douse the blaze.

While conducting foot patrol, our officers found a man sleeping in a storage room on the pier. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officers learned that he had an active warrant through another jurisdiction. He was then placed under arrest, and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for his non-local warrant.

One of our officers responded to a beachfront parking lot in reference to a possible incident of Entering an Auto.

While speaking with our teammate, the victim stated that someone had stolen his cellphone from his vehicle while it had been parked in the lot.

A report was filed, and the case was forwarded to investigations.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer learned that the man had an active warrant through another jurisdiction. He was then placed under arrest transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for his non-local warrant.

Officers responded to a residence on South Campbell Avenue in reference to a house fire.

Upon their arrival, our team found that the homeowner had already put the flames out. While speaking with one of our officers, the man stated that the fire started from his golf cart’s battery, which he plugged in to charge approximately an hour prior.

A report was filed, and the scene was turned over to the Tybee Island Fire Department.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having a defective tag light.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes were red and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor of marijuana wafting from within the vehicle, and an open container of alcohol in the back seat.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Tag Light Requirements, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).
