A concerned citizen came to the Tybee Island Police Department to turn in a top hat they found. Upon inspection, one of our officers found that the hat was decorated on all sides with dead bugs, snake skins, bones, and other animal parts.
Due to the unsanitary nature of the original owner’s sense of fashion, the item was discarded. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Later that evening, one of our officers spotted a golf cart driving on Miller Avenue without its headlights on.
After stopping the cart, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes were watery and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked about how much alcohol he had that evening, the man admitted to “a couple of shots of ‘Wild Turkey’" at his motel.
During the curse of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the cart while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Use Headlights After Dark, Driving Without a License, and DUI (Less Safe).

One of our officers responded to a vacation rental on Silver Avenue in reference to fraud.
While speaking with our team, the victim stated that he arrived at his vacation rental only to find another family already staying there. After calling the rental company, he realized that he had been scammed by booking the house through a fake link on Facebook.
A report was filed, and the vacation rental company was able to help the victim and his family find another place to stay.

While on patrol, one of our officers found a city crosswalk sign lying on the ground near Butler and 7th Street. It was believed to have been knocked over during a period of strong winds.
A report was filed, and the Department of Public Works was notified of the need for repair. No further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were watery and that he slurred his words as he spoke. He also noticed that the man was wearing a paper wristband, such as the type commonly used to grant access into bars. When asked how much he had to drink that evening, however, the man denied having any alcohol.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man was being less than truthful. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, No Insurance, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane and having a defective tag light.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and watery. When asked how much he had to drink that morning, the man denied having any alcohol.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while intoxicated. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Defective Equipment, No Driver’s License, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

While on patrol, an officer was flagged down about a stop sign that had been knocked over. Upon inspection, the officer believed that the sign had fallen as a result of recent weather conditions.
A report was filed, and the Department of Public Works was notified of the need for repair. No further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers responded to a report of a possible theft.
While speaking with our team, the victim stated that someone had stolen a fishing pole from the bed of his pickup while it was parked at a local motel.
A report was filed, and the victim was provided with information for follow-up.
