Shortly before 2:00 AM, one of our officers was on patrol in the area of Chatham Avenue when he saw three people walking in the road. After spotting the officer, the trio turned onto a nearby cross street and ran away.
Upon further investigation, the officer found a chainsaw lying in the roadway. The tool was taken into police custody and placed into our evidence room for safekeeping.

Officers responded to the beach near Inlet in reference to an unattended vehicle stuck in the sand. As the vehicle was being towed, the owner arrived on scene and became belligerent with the officers. When asked to sign a citation for having the vehicle on the beach, the woman took the ticket and wrote, “F—- You B——-!”.
She then attempted to get into the passenger side of the tow truck, until the driver informed her that he wasn’t taking her anywhere. At that time, she climbed back out of the truck and walked away.
Later that morning, the woman came to the Tybee Island Police Department in order to file a complaint about the officers she encountered on scene. After being provided with a written complaint form, the woman demanded that one of our team members give her a ride to the tow yard in Savannah. When she was told that this wouldn’t be possible, she became irate and began ringing the service bell in the dispatch window repeatedly. At one point, the woman informed our officers that she would be contacting her attorney and walked out of the building. A few minutes later, she returned to the lobby, stole the service bell from the dispatch window, and attempted to flee the scene.
Officers caught up to her in front of the police department, where she was placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct, and Theft by Taking. The bell was returned to the window, and the woman was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center for booking.

At approximately 8:05AM, our officers responded to the area of Highway 80 and Miller Avenue in reference to a Hit-and-Run involving a bicyclist.
While on scene, our team learned that the victim had allegedly been struck by a brown in color F-150 pickup. The victim was then transported to the hospital, and officers began to search for the suspect vehicle.
During the course of the investigation, our team utilized FLOCK license plate readers and available camera footage to identify a suspect vehicle. After responding to the registered owner’s residence, officers noted that the truck in question bore damage consistent with having struck the bicyclist. After a brief interview, the owner was placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Yield While Crossing Roadway, Hit-and-Run, and Duty to Report an Accident.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Later that evening, one of our officers responded to the North Beach Parking lot in reference to a possible drunk driver.
Once in the area, the officer was flagged down by the original caller. While speaking with our teammate, the caller stated that the vehicle in question had attempted to back out of a parking space but instead drove forward and collided with a nearby restaurant’s wooden staircase. Upon further investigation, the officer found the vehicle still trying to back out of the space. It was unable to go anywhere, however, due to being stuck on the staircase.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot at that she slurred her words as she spoke. When asked if she would be willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the woman refused. When asked why, she replied, “Because I’ve been drinking more that I should have and I personally don’t drunk drive”. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Criminal Trespass and DUI (Less Safe).

Just before 3:00AM, one of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.
While talking to the teenaged driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an adult beverage wafting through his open window. When asked, the teen admitted to having “four beers” several hours earlier.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the young man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Possession of Alcohol by a Minor, Possession of Tobacco by a Minor, Violation of a Class D License, and DUI (Under 21).

One of our officers responded to a short-term vacation rental in reference to a noise complaint.
Upon his arrival in the area, the officer could hear loud music coming from the residence. A noise ordinance citation was issued, and no further action was taken at that time.

Just before 2:00AM, one of our officers spotted a golfcart driving down Butler Avenue without taillights.
After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes were bloodshot and that she slurred her words as she spoke. There were also multiple open containers of alcohol inside the cart. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman admitted to four or five drinks within a couple of hours of the stop.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the cart while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with a Taillight Violation, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

A short time later, officers responded to a local condominium complex in reference to people trespassing in the swimming pool.
Upon their arrival, our team spotted several people running away from the area. Two young men decided to stay, however, and were issued Criminal Trespass warnings at the request of the property manager.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Later that evening, one of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to use its headlights after dark.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that he had slurred speech and an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink on his breath.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Use Headlights After Dark, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to maintain its lane.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes had a “glassy” appearance. When asked, the man denied having any alcohol to drink that evening.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, Reckless Driving, Window Tint Violation, Open Container, and DUI (.08 or more).

While conducting an open business check, one of our officers was approached by an employee of the store.
During the course of their conversation, the employee stated that there was a man attempting to sleep on a bench outside and was refusing to leave.
While subsequently speaking with the suspect, the officer noticed that the man visibly swayed from side to side and slurred his words as he spoke. The officer also noted that there was vomit on the man’s clothes and the sidewalk nearby. During the course of the investigation, the officer learned the man had active warrants through another jurisdiction, but they were out of pickup range. The man was then placed under arrest and charged with Public Intoxication.
