One of our officers was conducting an investigation on Tybrisa Street, when a man and woman walked up and began to interfere. After being instructed to leave, the man threatened to “take the officer’s badge”, before adding “I’ll take your gun”. Despite the man’s poor behavior, the officer exercised patience and allowed them to walk away.
As the officer tried to his attention back to the job at hand, the couple returned. During this time, the man once again became confrontational with the officer, identifying himself as a “tough gangster motherf——-”, before continuing to interfere in the investigation. As the officer moved to place the man under arrest, he began to actively resist. During the ensuing confrontation, the officer attempted to tase the man several times with no effect. As he did so, the man’s female companion attempted to step in between the two, forcing the officer to physically push her out of the way.
After a brief struggle, the officer was able to handcuff the man’s arms behind his back. As he was being placed in the backseat of a patrol car, the man continued to resist, kicking the officer several times in the process. Once inside the car, he continued to kick the interior, breaking a piece of trim.
Meanwhile, the female suspect refused to follow simple instructions and began to argue with a back-up officer. During the course of the exchange, the woman pulled her own shirt up, exposing both breasts to the public. As the officer moved to place her under arrest, the woman briefly struggled before being handcuffed. After being placed in a patrol car, the woman urinated in the seat and continuously kicked the interior, doing damage to the vehicle in the process. Both suspects were then transported to the Tybee Island Police Department for booking.
Once there, the woman continued to resist, kicking an officer several times as she did so. Both suspects were ultimately transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. While there, both continued to be combative with officers and medical staff. During the ensuing chaos, the female suspect was able to escape through an unsecured door.
The man was eventually transported to the Chatham County Detention Center where he was booked into custody on the charges of Public Drunkenness, Disorderly Conduct, Possession of Marijuana, Obstruction (Felony), and Interference with Government Property.
At this time, the female suspect is still at large, but has been charged with Public Drunkenness, Disorderly Conduct, Obstruction (Felony), Public Indecency, Interference with Government Property, Theft by Taking, and Escape.
