• Officers responded to a local nursing home in reference to a possible missing person. While speaking with our team, the manager stated that a patient had been signed out by family on Mother’s Day and had not yet returned. The manager was concerned due to the medical needs of the patient in question. Officers explained that the patient was under no legal obligation to return, and as such, they were unable to report her as missing.

    A few days later, the patient called and informed the nursing home that they were ok and would be returning soon. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • One of our officers was flagged down in reference to a bicycle crash. During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that the victim had been riding his bicycle on highway 80, when he crashed into a trash can that had been left on the sidewalk near Byers. While speaking with the victim, the officer noticed visible injuries to his face and limbs. The man was subsequently transported to a local hospital by a friend.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

    One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 50mph in a 35mph zone.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were “glossy” and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting from his breath. When asked how much alcohol he had that date, the man replied, “Minimal” When asked to elaborate, the man replied that he had “One Pina Colada”, before pointing out two open containers of alcohol in the center console.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

    One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having a defective brake light.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were “glossy”, and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man admitted to having “a Vodka Redbull” and “a couple of other beers” several hours before.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with a Defective Taillight, and DUI (Less Safe).

  • One of our officers responded to a local motel in reference to a suspicious incident.

    While speaking with our team, the caller stated that upon walking out to his car, he found a dollar bill lying on the windshield. The caller claimed that he had seen stories where dollar bills had been laced with Fentanyl and left on windshields in a similar fashion. As such, he was scared to touch or move it. Our officer then collected the dollar bill and deposited it into our evidence room. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

    Officers responded to an address on 2nd Avenue in reference to a possible theft.

    While speaking with our team, the victim stated that she had been unloading items from her car, when she accidentally dropped one of her bags in the driveway. When she returned for the bag several minutes later, it was gone. A report was filed, and the case was forwarded to investigations.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were “glossy”, and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked, the man admitted to having “a couple of drinks” prior to the stop. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, and DUI (Less Safe).

    Officers responded to a local souvenir store in reference to a disorderly person.

    While speaking with our team, an employee stated that he approached a customer who had just left the store and asked if he had paid for all of his items. The employee further stated that at that time, the customer became extremely agitated and began to yell and cuss at him. After exchanging a few words with the customer, the employee walked back inside and locked the door. The customer than began pulling on the door, while allegedly yelling, “I’m going to beat your ass!”. He then left the scene.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

    Officers responded to Lovell Avenue in reference to a bicycle accident with injuries. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that two bicyclists had been riding towards each other, when bystanders began to spray water at them. As the bicyclists attempted to avoid being blasted with water, they collided with one another. One bicyclist sustained a head injury, and it is believed they may have lost consciousness. That person was transported to the hospital by EMS, while the other was taken by private vehicle. A report was filed, and no further action was taken at that time.

    Officers responded to Strand Avenue in reference to someone brandishing a firearm. While speaking with the suspect, officers learned that his wife had been intentionally drenched when someone dropped water from a balcony above. At that time, he lifted his shirt to show the assailants that he was carrying a gun. The man further stated that he never drew the weapon and instead walked away to cool down before speaking with our team. According to both the man and his wife, they were unfamiliar with the Beach Bum parade, and didn’t understand why anyone would drench people who were obviously not participating.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • While on patrol, one of our officers watched an obviously intoxicated man fall to the ground. Several people then helped the man up, but he was unable to maintain his balance and fell once again. When asked where he was staying, the man was unable to provide an address but claimed that he was getting a ride home from one of the bystanders. When asked anyone planned on taking him home, however, everyone on scene replied, “no”. The man was then placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct.

    While on patrol, one of our officers spotted two women lying in the dirt beside the road. When asked what they were doing, one of the women replied that she was “calling a ride”. A closer look revealed that she wasn’t actually calling anyone, however, and appeared too intoxicated to successfully operate the phone. Both women were then placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct.

  • Officers responded to a local motel in reference to a possible assault. While speaking with our team, the caller stated that he had been standing on the sidewalk, talking to an unknown man, when that man suddenly punched him in the mouth and ran away. The caller was then turned over to EMS personnel and transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

    A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

    Officers responded to a local motel in reference to damage to property. While speaking with our team, the caller stated that he parked his rental vehicle in the lot on Thursday and had not moved it since. When he returned to the car on Sunday, he noticed damage to both driver’s side doors.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.
