• One of our officers responded to a local motel in reference to damage to property.

    While speaking with our teammate, a staff member showed him a video of a man punching a hole in a pillar outside of the motel. A report was filed, and the motel employee was provided with information for follow-up.

  • Our team was notified that local FLOCK license plate readers had identified a vehicle belonging to a person reported missing out of South Carolina.

    Officers were then able to locate the vehicle and successfully reunited the missing person with their family.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle after it almost struck a pedestrian while backing out of a parking space.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed an overwhelming odor similar to that of an adult beverage wafting through his open window. When asked, the man admitted to having a few drinks throughout the evening.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with DUI (Less Safe).

  • The owner of a Short-Term Vacation Rental called to report her property being vandalized.

    While speaking with one of our officers, the caller stated that renters recently arrived at the property to find used condoms and liquor bottles strewn about. As a result, the caller believes that someone has been using her property without permission.

    A report was filed, and the case was forwarded to Investigations.

  • Just before the Beach Bum parade, a woman approached officers along the route to report an incident involving her young daughter.

    While speaking with officers, the complainant stated that another parade-goer had become angry after her daughter squirted them with a water gun. The parade-goer then allegedly grabbed the complainant’s daughter by both arms and threatened to “shoot her with a water gun in the ear”.

    Officers then spoke with the suspect and an independent witness, both of whom denied that the suspect ever grabbed the girl.

    A report was filed, and the complainant was provided with information for follow-up.

  • Officers responded to Butler Avenue and 9th Street in reference to a Hit and Run.

    While speaking with our team, a bus driver stated that while she was parked on the side of road, another vehicle had sideswiped her bus. Unfortunately, the bus driver was only able to provide limited information regarding the suspect vehicle.

    Officers checked the area but were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

    One of our officers stopped a vehicle for continuously honking its horn for no apparent reason.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink billowing through her open window. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman admitted to “four drinks”.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Improper Use of Horn and DUI (Less Safe).

    Later that evening, one of our officers encountered a golf cart stopped in the middle of Butler Avenue.

    While speaking with our teammate, the driver indicated that the golf cart had “just shut off”. Closer inspection revealed that the battery was dead. During the course of their conversation, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes were red and that she slurred her words as she spoke. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman admitted to “two glasses at dinner”.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the cart while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Open Container and DUI (.08 or more).

  • At 1:36AM on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Tybee Island Police Department received a call in reference to a man with a gun. According to the caller, the suspect had pointed a gun at his neck and had taken his girlfriend against her will.

    While later speaking with officers, the caller explained that he and his girlfriend were in their hotel room when they received a text message from an acquaintance, Haneif Brown, asking for help. The couple then drove to a local gas station, where they met Brown. During that meeting, Brown reportedly pointed a gun at the caller, and ordered the caller’s girlfriend to leave with him against her will.

    During the course of the investigation, another victim came forward and stated that they were also an acquaintance of Brown, and had also been threatened with a weapon.

    Officers ultimately located Haneif Brown and the original caller’s girlfriend at another local gas station. During that time, they discovered that Brown’s six year old child was also in the vehicle, seated near loaded weapons.

    Haneif Brown was placed under arrest, and charged with Simple Battery, Reckless Conduct, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, Terroristic Threats, Aggravated Assault, and Kidnapping. Three firearms were recovered during an inventory of Brown’s vehicle and taken as evidence.

    Brown’s child was taken into protective custody. This remains an active investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
