A man called the Tybee Island Police Department to report losing a firearm.
While speaking with one of our teammates, the man stated that he had stored the weapon in a diaper bag. Unfortunately, sometime between his trips to the beach and the pool at his condo complex, the bag, and the gun it contained, went missing.
Two days later, a woman came to the Tybee Island Police Department with the weapon in question. While speaking with an officer, she stated that she found the gun lying in the grass near a foot wash station. A report was filed, and the gun was secured in an evidence locker for safekeeping.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed an odor similar to that of an adult beverage wafting through her open window. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman admitted to “a beer”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

Officers responded to a local bar in reference to a report of a patron behaving erratically.
Upon their arrival, they found the suspect sitting at the bar in a state of partial undress. During the course of the investigation, the suspect was placed under arrest for Public Indecency and turned over to the custody of emergency medical personnel for a mental health evaluation.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having an obscured tag.
While talking to the driver, the officer was able to smell a strong odor of marijuana billowing through the open window. When asked about the source, the man admitted to having “two or three grams” in the car.
During the course of a subsequent search of the vehicle based on probable cause, the officer discovered pipes, as well as containers of marijuana, and what he believed to be hallucinogenic mushrooms. When asked, a passenger in the vehicle claimed ownership of the mushrooms and confirmed that they contained psilocybin. The passenger was then placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Drug Related Objects and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Psilocybin).
The mushrooms were taken as evidence and will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for positive identification.

One of our officers responded to the City of Tybee Island’s South Annex in reference to found property.
While speaking with our teammate, a Parking Services employee handed him two wallets, a cell phone, and two debit cards that had been found in the parking lots.
All of the items were then transported to the Tybee Island Police Department where they were processed as found property and placed into an evidence locker for safekeeping.

While on patrol, one of our officers noticed thick, dark smoke in the 200 block of Butler Avenue. Upon further investigation, he realized that a nearby house was on fire.
The Tybee Island Fire Department was notified, and officers safely evacuated all of the occupants from the residence.
A report was filed, and the scene was turned over to Tybee Fire.

One of our officers responded to the YMCA in reference to a possible accident.
While speaking with our teammate, a city employee stated that he had been inside of the facility when he was notified that someone had backed into his work truck. Upon inspection, however, neither the employee nor the officer could find any damage on the vehicle.
A report was filed out of an abundance of caution, and the city employee was provided with information for follow-up.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 46 mph in a 30-mph zone.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed two open containers of alcohol in the vehicle’s cupholders. When asked, the woman admitted to having one drink at a local bar.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest and charged with DUI (.08 or more).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to maintain its lane.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. At one point, an ambulance passed the stop with its lights and sirens activated, which prompted the driver to exit the vehicle and raise his hands above his head.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, and DUI (.08 or more).

Later that same morning, an officer stopped a vehicle for traveling 58mph in a 35-mph zone.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer learned that the driver’s license was suspended. She was then placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

Officers responded to the intersection of Highway 80 and Jones Avenue in reference to a motor vehicle collision.
While speaking with the at-fault driver, officers were able to smell an odor of marijuana lingering around his vehicle and clothing. During the course of a subsequent search based on probable cause, our team located a firearm in the vehicle. A fact that became problematic when it was discovered that the driver was a convicted felon.
Through further investigation, officers also found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of drugs. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device, Improper Right Turn, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and DUI (Drugs - Less Safe).

One of our officers responded to the East Gate beach crossover in reference to a possible incident of Battery.
While speaking with our teammate, the victim stated that she had been attacked from behind by another woman, who then proceeded to kick her and drag her along the ground by her hair. The victim further stated that the suspect had been threatening to “jump her” for some time, and she believes the suspect pretended to be a man named “Marcus” in order to lure her there.
A report was filed, and the victim was provided with information for follow-up.

While on foot patrol, an officer found a cell phone lying in a flower planter. The phone was later transported to the Tybee Island Police Department where it was placed into an evidence locker for safekeeping.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 59mph in a 30-mph zone.
During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that the driver was several hours away from home and had been reported as a missing person. The driver expressed a desire to be reunited with his family and stated that he had been purposefully speeding in hopes of finding a police officer to help him.
Our team was able to make contact with the man’s family who confirmed his story and reported that he had been missing for several days. He was then transported to the Tybee Island Police Department, where he was provided with coffee and water before being turned over to the custody of emergency medical personnel.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Later that same morning, another officer stopped a vehicle for speeding.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer learned that the teenaged driver did not have a license. He also learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen from another jurisdiction.
The driver was then placed under arrest and charged with Theft by Receiving (Felony).
