• A man called the Tybee Island Police Department to report losing a firearm.

While speaking with one of our teammates, the man stated that he had stored the weapon in a diaper bag. Unfortunately, sometime between his trips to the beach and the pool at his condo complex, the bag, and the gun it contained, went missing.

Two days later, a woman came to the Tybee Island Police Department with the weapon in question. While speaking with an officer, she stated that she found the gun lying in the grass near a foot wash station. A report was filed, and the gun was secured in an evidence locker for safekeeping.

    _____

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed an odor similar to that of an adult beverage wafting through her open window. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman admitted to “a beer”.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

  • Officers responded to a local bar in reference to a report of a patron behaving erratically.

Upon their arrival, they found the suspect sitting at the bar in a state of partial undress. During the course of the investigation, the suspect was placed under arrest for Public Indecency and turned over to the custody of emergency medical personnel for a mental health evaluation.

A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having an obscured tag.

While talking to the driver, the officer was able to smell a strong odor of marijuana billowing through the open window. When asked about the source, the man admitted to having “two or three grams” in the car.

During the course of a subsequent search of the vehicle based on probable cause, the officer discovered pipes, as well as containers of marijuana, and what he believed to be hallucinogenic mushrooms. When asked, a passenger in the vehicle claimed ownership of the mushrooms and confirmed that they contained psilocybin. The passenger was then placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Drug Related Objects and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Psilocybin).

The mushrooms were taken as evidence and will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for positive identification.

One of our officers responded to the City of Tybee Island’s South Annex in reference to found property.

While speaking with our teammate, a Parking Services employee handed him two wallets, a cell phone, and two debit cards that had been found in the parking lots.

All of the items were then transported to the Tybee Island Police Department where they were processed as found property and placed into an evidence locker for safekeping.
