One of our officers responded to a local motel in reference to damage to property. While speaking with our teammate, motel staff stated that two guests had failed to pay for their stay in full and had allegedly done over $1,800 of damage to the room before being evicted.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the issue was a civil matter. A report was filed, and the staff were provided with information for follow-up.

Just after midnight, one of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot, and that there was a strong odor similar to an adult drink emitting from the open window. Wen asked, the woman admitted to having a “Johnny Walker on the Rocks” that evening.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI (.08 or more).

While clearing up from an unrelated call, one of our officers was approached by a good Samaritan in reference to found property.
While speaking with our teammate, the man stated that he had found a wallet lying in the road while riding his motorcycle “in the middle of nowhere”, Georgia. The officer then took custody of the wallet and placed into a property locker for safekeeping.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for driving on the wrong side of Butler Avenue.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were red and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked how much alcohol he had that day, the man admitted to having “a drink” sometime earlier.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

A concerned citizen came to the Tybee Island Police Department to turn in a wallet that had been found in the parking lot of a local restaurant.
Our team was able to make contact with the rightful owner and reunite them with their property. A report was filed, and no further action was taken at that time.

Officers responded to the area of 8th Street in reference to a vehicle in the marsh.
Upon their arrival, our team found the unattended vehicle hanging off of 8th Street with its rear end in the marsh. After trying unsuccessfully to contact the owner, officers had the vehicle towed from the scene.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Officers responded to a local bar in reference to a disorderly person who was refusing to leave.
While speaking with our team, employees asked that the man be banned from the establishment for a year. He was then issued a Criminal Trespass notice and advised that he would be subject to arrest if he returned. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Officers responded to a local restaurant in reference to a fight.
During the course of the investigation, our team learned that a woman had slapped another customer across the face, leaving a visible red mark in the process. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Simple Battery.

At approximately 6:30 PM, Tybee Island began to experience an unpermitted, pop-up event involving hundreds of people around the pier and pavilion. During the course of that event, our officers heard an undetermined amount of shots fired, and the crowd began to scatter.
After being notified of the situation, a number of off-duty Tybee officers immediately responded to the island to assist. They were joined by officers of the Chatham County Police Department, deputies of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, and members of the Georgia State Patrol.
With the event effectively dispersed, our team began to coordinate efforts to investigate the incident and help ensure public safety. At this point, we have not located a suspect, and no victims have come forward.
