One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane and having a defective tag light. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were red, and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink emanating from his breath. When asked how much he had to drink that morning, the man replied, “Not that much”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Tag Light Required, and DUI (.08 or more).

A concerned citizen came to the Tybee Island Police Department to turn in a wallet they found on the island. Upon inspection, officers noted that the wallet still contained a driver’s license, several credit cards, and $191 in cash. The wallet and all of its contents were successfully reunited with the rightful owner later that same day.

One of our officers was flagged down in reference to a dog bite. While speaking with our team, the distraught complainant stated that she had been walking her dog on Polk Street, when it had been attacked by another dog which was off leash. Upon inspection, the officer noted that the complainant’s dog was missing fur and shaking uncontrollably, but didn’t appear to be visibly injured.
The officer then gathered the information for the second dog’s owner and was informed that the animal was up to date on all vaccinations. A report was filed, and the case was forwarded to Code Compliance for follow-up.

Officers responded to the parking lot of a local hotel in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Once on scene, the spoke with a woman sitting in the driver’s seat and learned that she was an employee of the hotel. Unfortunately, they also learned that she had an active warrant through an outside jurisdiction. She was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for her non-local warrant.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. While searching the man’s pockets incident to arrest, the officer found a small bag of marijuana. He was then charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, and DUI (Combo - Less Safe).

Officers responded to the area of Naylor Avenue in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Once on scene, an officer found a woman crying in the back seat of the car. The officer then asked the woman to roll down a window or open the door so that he could speak with her, to which she shook her head, “No”. The woman then climbed into the driver’s seat, put the car in reverse, and backed all the way to Highway 80. She was last seen traveling northbound, leaving the island.
While speaking with our team, the caller stated that the woman had approached him and claimed that she was “supposed to meet him”. He noted that she seemed very nervous, and he had never seen her before.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers was flagged down by a concerned citizen who reported finding a wallet on 2nd Avenue. upon inspection, the officer noted that the wallet still contained a driver’s license, miscellaneous cards, and $170 in cash. The officer then took custody of the items, and they were successfully reunited with their rightful owner.

Officers responded to a local restaurant in reference to Theft of Services. While speaking with our team, restaurant staff reported that a woman ordered food and then left with the items without paying. The employees then provided officers with a detailed description of the suspect, her vehicle, and surveillance footage of the incident.
Officers utilized our FLOCK license plate reader system to confirm that the suspect vehicle had been in the area at the time of the incident. A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for making a dangerous and improper turn. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. The officer also noticed that there were two small children in the back seat.
When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the driver replied, “two shots”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, away from the line of sight of his children, and charged with Improper Right Turn, DUI (.08 or more), and Endangering a Child While DUI. His family members were later given a courtesy ride to their hotel room.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 52 mph in a 35-mph zone. While talking with the officer, the driver stated that she had been speeding because she had a “small disagreement” with one of her passengers over vaping. During their conversation, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes were red. and that she slurred her words as she spoke. When asked, the woman admitted to having “two drinks” about a half hour before the stop.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. As she was being placed under arrest, the woman also admitted to having a small amount of marijuana in her pocket. She was then charged with Speeding and DUI (Less Safe).

There was also an open container of alcohol lying in the floorboard within plain view.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, Driving While License Suspended, and DUI (Combo - Less Safe).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 47 mph in a 35-mph speed zone. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed an odor of marijuana wafting through her open window. There was also an open container of alcohol sitting in a cupholder in plain view. When asked, the woman admitted to smoking in the vehicle. When asked for her license, she pulled up a photo of someone else’s driver’s license on her phone. When asked to confirm basic information, she eventually admitted that the license pictured was not her own.
When asked if she was willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the woman refused. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, Seatbelt Violation, Open Container, Giving False Name/DOB to Law Enforcement, Driving While License Suspended, and DUI (Combo - Less Safe).
