• One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 50mph in a 35-mph zone.

    During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that the driver had an active warrant through another jurisdiction. She was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for her non-local warrant.

    An officer responded to a short-term vacation rental on Bay Street in reference to found property.

    While speaking with our teammate, the current tenant stated that his young son opened a drawer in the rental and discovered a firearm. The officer then took custody of the weapon and transported it to the Tybee Island Police Department for safekeeping.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that the man’s eyes were red, and that he attempted to hand her a credit card along with his driver’s license. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked, the man admitted to drinking on the beach earlier in the day but claimed to have stopped several hours before.

    When given the opportunity to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the man refused. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane and DUI (Less Safe).

    Officers responded to a local restaurant in reference to an injured person.

    Upon their arrival, the officers learned that a woman had fallen and reportedly hit her head. Our team then provided first aid to the victim until she was turned over to the custody of Emergency Medical personnel.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • Officers responded to a local nursing home in reference to a criminal trespass complaint.

    While speaking with our team, employees pointed out a man who they claimed was “causing a big stir” and needed to leave. During the course of the investigation, however, officers learned that the man was actually an attorney, who had been contacted by several of the residents there.

    The officers then explained that given the circumstances, they would not remove the man from the property or issue a criminal trespass notice at that time.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling the wrong way on a one-way street.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were red and that she slurred her words as she spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an adult beverage billowing through the open window. When asked, the woman admitted to having “four beers” that evening.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way and DUI (.08 or more).

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were red and that she slurred her words as she spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an adult beverage seeping through her open window.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way, Expired Registration, and DUI (.08 or more).
