Officers responded to a residence on 2nd Avenue in reference to a possible theft.
While talking with our team, the caller claimed that his keys had been stolen. Further investigation revealed, however, that his friends had taken them in an effort to prevent him from driving.
Noting that the man was obviously intoxicated, officers tried unsuccessfully to convince him to spend the night with his friends. Refusing to listen to reason, the man began to direct a string of profanity and racial slurs at the police. Realizing that the man’s behavior in his current condition posed a danger to himself or others, they placed him under arrest for Disorderly Conduct.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers stopped a golf cart due to the driver not wearing a seatbelt.
While talking to the man, the officer noticed that his eyes were red and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an adult beverage lingering around the cart. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man replied, “I can’t answer that”. When the officer asked if he couldn’t answer because he didn’t remember, the man said, “Because I’m smart and because I know the law and because I’m not gonna answer that question with you”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the cart while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with a Seatbelt Violation, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).
