At 1:36AM on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Tybee Island Police Department received a call in reference to a man with a gun. According to the caller, the suspect had pointed a gun at his neck and had taken his girlfriend against her will.

While later speaking with officers, the caller explained that he and his girlfriend were in their hotel room when they received a text message from an acquaintance, Haneif Brown, asking for help. The couple then drove to a local gas station, where they met Brown. During that meeting, Brown reportedly pointed a gun at the caller and ordered the caller’s girlfriend to leave with him against her will.
