• One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were red and that she slurred her words as she spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through her open window. When asked, the woman admitted to having one drink approximately two hours prior to the stop.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that she had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, and DUI (.08 or more).

    Officers responded to an address on Jones Avenue in reference to a possible Burglary.

    Upon their arrival, our team spotted a broken pane of glass on the front door and noticed that the door was ajar. A methodical sweep of the residence revealed that there was no one on the property at that time.

    Officers then made telephone contact with the homeowner, who advised that she would check the residence later that evening and call back if anything appeared to have been stolen.

    A report was filed, and the case was forwarded to investigations.

  • Officers responded to the area of Highway 80 near 2nd Avenue in reference to an erratic driver. While they were checking the area, dispatch received a second call, stating that the erratic driver had struck a parked vehicle on Butler Avenue and left the scene. Further investigation would reveal that the parked vehicle suffered a broken mirror as a result of the accident.

    Shortly thereafter, one of our officers located the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of a local bar and noticed that the passenger side mirror was damaged. They were unable to locate the owner at the time.

    A report was filed, and the victim was provided with information for follow-up.

    One of our officers was monitoring traffic along Highway 80 when his patrol car was sideswiped by a passing vehicle. During a subsequent investigation by the Georgia State Patrol, the other driver was placed under arrest for DUI. The officer was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and released.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for making a left turn in front of oncoming traffic.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the driver admitted to one “shooter”, a shot of liquor served inside of small plastic bottle.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Signal, Improper Left Turn, Suspended Registration, Open Container, and DUI (.08 or more).

    Later that evening, one of our officers stopped a vehicle for having a defective headlight.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were red and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man admitted to having “one beer” approximately 10 minutes prior to the stop.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Headlight Requirements, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

  • Officers responded to the 1500 block of Butler Avenue in reference to two people who had become disorderly after being ejected from a nearby bar.

    Upon his arrival in the area, one officer immediately noticed a man standing on the sidewalk yelling in the direction of the bar. As the officer attempted to speak with the suspect, the man began pacing back and forth along the sidewalk and yelling profanity. He eventually calmed down enough to explain that he and a friend had been kicked out of the bar after whistling to get the bartender’s attention.

    While speaking with witnesses, officers learned that after being kicked out of the bar, the suspect attempted to push past the doorman several times, allegedly ripping his shirt in the process.

    When asked where he was staying that night, the suspect replied that it “didn’t matter” and then informed officers that any other questions they had for him “wouldn’t matter”, either. At or around that same time, a bystander approached the group, prompting the suspect to shove him away while asking, “Who the f—- are you?!”. The suspect was then placed under arrest and charged with Public Drunkenness and Disorderly Conduct. Once in the back seat of a patrol car, the suspect began to scream profanity while continuously kicking the rear window. He then informed the officer that he was “Coming back for revenge,” and that he would “Be out tomorrow”. Once at the Tybee Island Police Department, he refused to exit the vehicle, forcing officers to pull him from the back seat. He was then given an additional charge of Obstruction and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center.

    Officers responded to the area of Fort Avenue in reference to a box truck striking a low-hanging tree branch. During the course of the investigation, an officer learned that a passenger in the truck had an active warrant through another jurisdiction. He was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for his non-local warrant.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 55mph in a 35mph speed zone.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were red and that he slurred his words as he spoke. The officer also noticed that the man’s passengers included three small children. When asked, the man denied having any alcohol that day.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer discovered evidence to the contrary. The driver was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, DUI, and Endangering a Child While DUI.

  • Officers responded to a local nursing home in reference to a patient striking a staff member.

    While speaking with our team, the employee stated that a patient struck him in the face during the course of an argument. The victim further stated that the same patient had done the same thing to other staff members in the past.

    When asked, the patient denied hitting the employee.

    A report was filed, and the victim was provided with information for follow-up.

    Officers responded to the parking lot of a local restaurant in reference to pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.

    While speaking with our team, the pedestrian stated that she had been standing in the parking lot when she was struck from behind by a slow-moving truck.

    When asked, the driver of the truck reported the same.

    A report was filed, and both parties were provided with information for follow-up.
