A concerned citizen came to the police department to turn in two driver’s licenses and miscellaneous cards that they found.
After taking custody of the property, one of our officers was able to make contact with the owners of both licenses. While speaking with the officer, the first owner stated that he had already replaced his license and cards and asked that the old ones be destroyed. The second owner needed his license but had no way to get to the police department to retrieve it. As a result, the officer made arrangements to mail it to the owner’s residence. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

A woman came to the Tybee Island Police Department to report her Apple Watch stolen.
While speaking with one of our teammates, the woman stated that she lost her watch while swimming in the ocean the weekend prior. Since that time, the watch had been “pinging” in a residential area on the island. The woman left notes at a couple of houses but had not yet heard back.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

While on patrol, one of our officers was flagged down in reference to a fight in a local bar.
During the course of the investigation, officers arrested both of the men involved and charged them with Affray.
A report was filed, and the case was closed by arrest.

Officers responded to the beach near Polk Street in reference to a vehicle stuck in the sand.
While speaking with officers, the driver stated that he had driven onto the beach to collect his fishing equipment when the vehicle became stuck. At his request, officers allowed the man several opportunities to free his vehicle, but each attempt only made the situation worse.
The driver was issued a citation for having a motorized vehicle on the beach, and the vehicle was towed from the sand.
A report was filed and no further action was taken during that time.

A woman contacted the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to a prowler caught on camera.
While speaking with one of our teammates, the woman stated that her Ring Camera had caught footage of an unknown man turning a door handle on her residence. She provided the footage to our officer but declined to pursue criminal charges.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers responded to an address on Jones Avenue in reference to a possible theft.
While speaking with our team, the victims stated that their rental bicycles had been stolen by an unknown person while parked at Alley 3.
A report was filed, and the victims were provided with information for follow-up.

One of our officers responded to a short-term vacation rental on Highway 80 in reference to found property.
While speaking with a member of housekeeping, the officer learned that a firearm had been left behind by a previous tenant. The officer then took custody of the weapon and transported it to the Tybee Island Police Department for safekeeping.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Officers responded to a residence on Kingry Street in reference to a dispute between landlord and tenant.
During the investigation, it was determined that the matter was a civil issue. The landlord was advised that he would need to speak with the Chatham County Courts if he wished to initiate the eviction process.

Officers responded to an address on Ocean Drive in reference to a possible Burglary.
During the course of the investigation, our team obtained surveillance footage of the suspect entering the residence. A short time later, one of our teammates located the suspect sitting outside of a closed business. When the officer attempted to speak with the suspect, he stood up and attempted to walk away. After ignoring several commands to stop, the suspect was tased. While placing the man under arrest, officers discovered that he was in possession of several large knives. Further investigation revealed that one of those had been stolen from the house on Ocean Drive.
The suspect was then taken to an area hospital for medical treatment, before being transferred to the Chatham County Detention Center. Once there, he was booked into custody on the charges of Burglary and Obstruction.

While on foot patrol, one of our officers encountered a man peeing on the exterior wall of a local business. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Public Indecency.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to yield the right-of-way to a firetruck and failing to dim its headlights in the process.
While talking to the driver, the officer smelled a strong odor similar to that of an adult beverage billowing through his open window. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man admitted to “one beer”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, Failure to Dim Headlights, Seatbelt Violation, No Driver’s License, and DUI (Less Safe).
