One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink that became stronger as the man spoke. When asked, the man denied having any alcohol that evening.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. At or around this same time, the man claimed that he had to go to the bathroom really badly and could not wait. He then proceeded to pee in the bushes on the side of the road.
After being allowed time to fix himself, the man was placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI (Less Safe).

One of our officers responded to the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to a possible theft.
While speaking with the victim, the officer learned that someone had stolen her bicycle from a rack near 14th Street. The victim further stated that the bicycle had been secured, which meant the thief would have had to cut the lock in order to take it.
A report was filed, and the victim was provided with information for follow-up.

One of our officers responded to a local hotel in reference to damage to property.
While speaking with our team, the victim stated that someone had scratched her rental vehicle while it was parked in the lot. A report was filed, and the victim was provided with information for follow-up.

One of our officers responded to the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to lost property.
While speaking with our team, the victim stated that he had rented a golf cart with a parking decal attached to the windshield. When he woke up that morning, the decal, along with the entire windshield, was missing.
A report was filed, and the victim was provided with information for follow-up.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle due to the driver not wearing a seatbelt.
While talking to the teenaged driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot and watery. When asked if she had any alcohol that day, the teen admitted to having one “High Noon” approximately an hour before.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the young woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with a Seatbelt Violation, and DUI (Under 21).

One of officers responded to the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to a possible theft.
While speaking with the victim, the officer learned that the man had placed his designer sunglasses in a locker at the local YMCA. When he returned to retrieve his property, he noticed that the key to the locker was missing.
After finding an employee to open the locker, the victim learned that his sunglasses were gone.
A report was filed, and the victim was provided with information for follow-up.

While on patrol, one of our officers found an electronic crosswalk sign lying on the ground. The Department of Public Works was notified so that the sign could be repaired or replaced.

Officers responded to the parking lot of a local church in reference to a theft.
While speaking with our team, the caller stated that someone had just stolen cash, prescription medication, and personal items from a vehicle in the parking lot. The caller then provided the officer with surveillance video, which showed a white male get out of a dark in color pickup just prior to committing the theft.
A report was filed, and the case was forwarded to investigations.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 71mph in a 35mph zone and not using its headlights after dark.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked, the man claimed that he had stopped drinking several hours before. During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, Failure to Use Headlights After Dark, and DUI (Less Safe).

One of our officers responded to an address on 5th Avenue in reference to someone stealing a trailer belonging to “On time Air HVAC”.
While speaking with our team, a witness was able to provide the officer with several photos of the suspects. A closer look would reveal that one of the men, and the vehicle used to tow the trailer, were the same ones involved in the theft from the church parking lot the day prior.
During the course of a follow-up investigation, detectives worked with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office to recover the trailer and positively identify the suspect.
At the time of this recap, Bryan Wayne Brown is currently wanted by the Tybee Island Police Department on the charges of Theft by Taking (Felony) and Entering an Auto.

Officers responded to an apartment complex on 6th Avenue in reference to a possible theft.
While speaking with our team, the caller stated that two men in a white truck had stolen three bicycles from a rack near the building. During the course of the investigation, one witness was able to provide the officer with photographs of the suspects and stated that they would work on providing surveillance camera footage.
A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

Tybee Island Lifeguards provided one of our officers with a wallet that had been found on the beach. Using the emergency contact information attached to the driver’s license, the officer was able to call the owner and advise him of the situation.
The pair then made arrangements to meet on the pier, where the wallet was returned to its rightful owner. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Officers responded to an address on McLeod Street in reference to a report of someone attempting to break into the residence.
Upon arrival, one of our officers found an intoxicated man crouching near the back gate. When asked what he was doing, the man replied that he was “a little woozy”. When asked why he was near the gate, the man said something about “dogs going off”. During the course of their conversation, the officer noted that the man slurred his words as he spoke, and that he claimed to live “in a motel right down the street”.
While speaking with the occupant of the house, officers learned that she had witnessed the man attempting to climb over the fence into her backyard.
He was then placed under arrest and charged with Public Drunkenness.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle after witnessing it weaving through traffic without signaling its lane changes.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked how much alcohol he had that day, the man replied, “two of the Simply Spikes”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Signal and DUI (.08 or more).
