One of our officers stopped a golf cart for failing to maintain its lane.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and his face was flushed. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man replied,
"not a lot”, before clarifying that he “had a few beers while at the beach”. When presented with the opportunity to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the man refused. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe)._____
While on foot patrol, one of our officers came across a man passed out in front of a local bar. At the time of his discovery the man was surrounded by several empty containers of alcohol and a fresh pile of vomit.
After waking the man, the officer noticed that he was very disoriented. When asked if he knew where he was, the man replied, “Myrtle Beach”. During the course of the mostly one-sided conversation, the man was unable to recall his name, or where he planned to stay for the evening. Faced with no other option, the officer placed the man under arrest and charged him with Public Drunkenness.

Our team received information from another agency that a man they had an arrest warrant for was on the island.
After locating the suspect’s vehicle, officers conducted a traffic stop and placed the man under arrest. He was then transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for his non-local warrant.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle due to the driver not wearing a seatbelt.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were glossy and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an open bottle of beer plainly visible in the vehicle’s cupholder. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the driver admitted to having “a couple” at a local bar.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with a Seatbelt Violation, Open Container, and DUI (.08 or more).

One of our officers responded to the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion in reference to a disorderly person.
While speaking with our teammate, the caller stated that the suspect had been on the pier earlier that same day. At the time, he had been heavily intoxicated and had been harassing other people in the area. At one point, he had reportedly been talking to some kids when he allegedly ate a raw fish, they intended to use as bait. He also allegedly told several bystanders that he had soiled himself. Afterwards, the police had been called, and they escorted the suspect back to his room. According to THOSE officers, they made it clear that he was not to come back into public that evening due to his level of intoxication.
Despite that warning, the suspect had returned to the pier. After noting that he was still obviously intoxicated, the officer placed him under arrest on the charge of Public Drunkenness.

Shortly after midnight, our team responded to the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion in reference to a disorderly person.
According to the caller, the suspect had been harassing fishermen at the end of the pier. At one point, he also allegedly sat in the caller’s chair. and refused to leave.
While speaking with the suspect, officers noted that he was unsteady on his feet, loud, and argumentative. Throughout the investigation, the suspect refused to provide his information or follow simple instructions. After he was given several opportunities to call a ride home and failed to do so, our team moved to place him under arrest. During that time, the man tensed his muscles and drew his arms close to his chest, forcing officers to physically pull his hands behind his back. He also refused to sit in the rear seat of a patrol car, making it necessary to force him inside. He was then transported to the Tybee Island Police Department, where he was booked into custody on the charges of Public Drunkenness and Obstruction.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for Speeding, Following Too Closely, and weaving in and out of traffic.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot. There was also an odor of marijuana flowing through his open window, and an open container of alcohol visible in the backseat. When asked why he had been driving so recklessly, the man reportedly replied, “ ‘Cause I’m on vacation". When the officer asked how much alcohol the man had that day, he admitted to “one small drink” approximately thirty minutes prior.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Following Too Closely, Improper Passing, Reckless Driving, Seatbelt Violation, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

Just after 2:00 in the morning, one of our officers spotted a vehicle traveling the wrong way on a one-way street.
After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes were bloodshot. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man claimed that he “didn’t drink”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Wrong Way on a One-Way Street and DUI (Under 21).

One of our officers responded to a local motel in reference to damage to property.
While speaking with our teammate, a woman stated that one of the motel’s umbrellas had damaged her vehicle after being caught in the wind during a storm. A report was filed, and the complainant was provided with information for follow-up.

Around 1:30 in the morning, one of our officers spotted a golf cart crossing Highway 80 without an amber safety light.
After stopping the cart, the officer noticed that the teenaged driver’s eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the teen replied that he had “one beer”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the teen had been operating the cart while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Golf Cart Violations, Possession of Alcohol by a Minor, and DUI (Less Safe).

Shortly thereafter, another officer stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.
While talking to the teenaged driver of THAT vehicle, the officer noticed that his eyes were glossy and bloodshot. There was also a smell similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the teen denied having any.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that he had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, Possession of Alcohol by a Minor, Possession of Tobacco by a Minor, Violation of a Class D License, and DUI (Less Safe).

One of our officers responded to a local souvenir store in reference to damage to property.
While speaking with our team, the owner reported that a former employee had returned to the store and spray-painted graffiti on their fence and dumpster.
A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

An officer was monitoring traffic with his windows rolled down, when he smelled the odor of marijuana from a passing vehicle.
After stopping the car, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes were glossy and bloodshot. There were also two open containers of alcohol in plain view. When asked about the smell, the driver admitted that she had been smoking and pointed to a partially burned marijuana cigarette.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Open Container and DUI (Less Safe).

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that the man’s eyes were glossy and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an adult beverage billowing through his open window. When asked, the man admitted to having “a couple of drinks” earlier in the evening.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way and DUI (Less Safe).
