A man came to the Tybee Island Police Department to report fraud.
While speaking with our team, the man stated that he received a call from someone claiming to be a representative of his bank. During the course of their conversation, the caller provided the victim with information that made him feel comfortable speaking with him. The caller then told the victim that there had been “suspicious activity” on his account and sent him a link to verify his information. Once complete, the caller was able to steal over $600.
A report was filed, and the victim was provided with information for follow-up.

While on patrol, one of our officers found a crosswalk sign at Butler and 5th Street lying on its side. A report was filed, and the Department of Public Works was notified of the need for repair.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed a strong smell similar to that of an alcoholic beverage flowing through the open window. He also noticed that the man’s eyes were red, and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked if he had been drinking that evening, the man admitted to having “a couple of beers”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane and DUI (Less Safe).

While on patrol, one of our officers found a cellphone lying on the ground outside of a gas station. After retrieving the device, our guy was able to make contact with the owner and reunite him with his property.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 53mph in a 30mph zone.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed an overwhelming smell similar to that of an alcoholic drink billowing from the man’s breath. When asked if he had any alcohol that evening, the man admitted to “a single Woodford and Coke”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, Open Container, and DUI (.08 or more).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having an expired registration.
While talking with the driver, the officer smelled the strong odor of marijuana wafting through the open window. A closer look revealed a still smoking marijuana cigarette inside a cup in the center console.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of drugs. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Expired Registration, No Driver’s License, and DUI (Less Safe).

One of our officers responded to a local hotel in reference to damage to property.
While speaking with our teammate, the victim stated that her vehicle had been damaged by unknown means the night before.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Officers responded to a local condominium complex in reference to damage to property.
While speaking with our team, the caller stated that the complex’s automatic gate had closed on her vehicle while she was halfway through, causing visible damage. During the course of the investigation, officers were able to make contact with a representative of the Homeowners Association and requested that they provide surveillance footage.
A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed two branded cups from a local bar in the center console. There was also a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink seeping through the open window. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man replied that he didn’t drink.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way, and DUI (.08 or more).

One of our officers responded to a local condominium complex in reference to found property. While speaking with our teammate, housekeeping staff pointed out a firearm that had been left behind by a previous guest. The officer then took custody of the weapon and placed it into our evidence room for safekeeping.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 47mph in a 30mph zone.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. Despite these telltale signs, the man denied drinking that evening.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI (Less Safe).

While on foot patrol, some of our officers were approached by employees of a local restaurant about a man who had just left the establishment without paying for his food. When asked where the man went, the employees pointed out an individual walking a short distance away.
While jogging to catch up to the suspect, our teammates identified themselves as police officers and instructed him to stop. In response, the man said, “I’m not f———- doing it” and turned to face them. As he closed the distance, one of our officers reached out to detain the suspect. As he did so, the man slapped his hand away. This led to a short scuffle which ended with the suspect in handcuffs. He was subsequently charged with Theft of Services and Obstruction.

Officers responded to the pier in reference to a fight. During the course of the investigation, our team learned that there had been an ongoing feud between two fishermen.
On this particular evening, the situation escalated when one of the fishermen began shoving the other. An attack which was caught on camera. While reviewing the video, officers watched the suspect threaten and shove the victim several times. The suspect was then placed under arrest and charged with Simple Battery.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 56mph in a 30mph zone.
While talking to the 18-year-old driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were red and that she slurred her words as she spoke. There was also a nicotine vape lying within plain view.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the teenager had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Possession of Tobacco Products by a Minor, and DUI (Under 21).

One of our officers was flagged down by multiple people in reference to a man peeing in a trash can inside of a bar.
When confronted by the officer, the man admitted to publicly peeing in the pub, citing the fact that he “really had to go”. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct.

At approximately 11:01 PM on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Tybee Island Police and Fire personnel responded to 11th Street (Beachside) in reference to a vehicle striking a pedestrian.
As officers secured the scene, Tybee Island Firefighters attempted life saving measures on the victim. Sadly, after the arrival of Emergency Medical personnel, it was determined that she was deceased.
At the request of our agency, the Georgia State Patrol responded and took over the accident investigation. As a result, no further information will be released by the Tybee Island Police Department at this time.As we shift our focus, the hearts of the Tybee Island Police Department will remain with all of those affected by this crash.
