One of our officers responded to the local laundromat in reference to found property.

During the course of the investigation, the caller gave the officer several debit and credit cards that she had found lying on the sidewalk. The officer then transported the cards to the Tybee Island Police Department, where they were placed into our property room for safekeeping.

Later that evening, an officer responded to a local condominium complex in reference to damage to property.

While speaking with our teammate, the caller stated that he had been attempting to leave the complex when the automatic gate shut on his vehicle. A report was filed, and the caller was provided with information for follow-up.

A woman came to the Tybee Island Police Department to report a possible theft.

While speaking with an officer, the woman stated that two firearms had gone missing from her home over the last several months. A report was filed, and the weapons were entered into the GCIC computer system as stolen.

While on patrol, one of our officers watched a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign.

After pulling the vehicle over, the officer learned that the registration was suspended and it did not have valid insurance. The driver was cited accordingly, and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

One of our officers responded to Tybrisa Street in reference to a report of women screaming.

Upon his arrival, the officer found that the women were frantic over finding a ball python hiding under a bench. The snake was then taken into police custody and later turned over to the Humane Society for Greater Savannah where it was placed on a stray hold.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were “glossy” and that she slurred her words as she spoke. There was also a strong odor of marijuana wafting through her open window. At or around this same time, the officer noted that the passengers in the vehicle included another adult and five children.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Child Safety Seat Violation, DUI (Less Safe) and five counts of Endangering a Child While DUI.

After being placed in the back seat of a patrol car, the woman began to aggressively kick the doors and windows while informing the officer that he was lucky she couldn’t punch him in the face. Once at the Chatham County Detention Center, the woman continued to act in an aggressive manner, including “mule kicking” the officer in the leg as he tried to escort her into the facility. As a result, she received an additional charge of Felony Obstruction.

Just before 1:00 AM, one of our officers spotted a man in black pants and a black hoodie peering into the windows of a closed business. As the officer watched, the man began to walk around the side of the building. At that time, the officer approached and confronted him.

When asked why he was loitering outside of a closed business at that hour, the man claimed that he was “getting cigarettes”. As the officer attempted to question the man further, he claimed that he was being “harassed” and attempted to back away. Despite being told that he wasn’t free to leave, the man insisted that the officer “back off”.

At that time, the officer moved to place the man under arrest. As he did so, the suspect began to actively resist, striking the officer in the chest in the process. As the man took a fighting stance, the officer pulled his Taser from its holster and ordered him to put his hands up. Seeing this, the suspect turned to leave, but not quick enough to avoid being tased.

He was then placed under arrest and charged with Loitering and Prowling and Obstruction.

One of our officers responded to a local address in reference to identify theft.

While speaking with our teammate, the caller stated that someone had been using a fake profile with the caller’s photo to scam people out of thousands of dollars.

A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

An officer responded to a local motel in reference to damage to property.

While speaking with our officer, motel staff stated at a guest had broken a window after being locked out of his room. They then provided the officer with video footage that showed the man punching a hole in the window before reaching through to open the door.

A report was filed, and the staff was provided with information for follow-up.

Officers responded to a local restaurant in reference to a report of a theft.

While speaking with our team, the caller stated that he had left his boat and trailer parked at that location for the past two weeks with the owner’s permission. When he returned to check on the boat, he discovered that it was missing.

A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for a crosswalk violation.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot ad that he smelled similar to an alcoholic drink. When asked how much he had to drink that day, the man admitted to “two beers” while on the beach.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with a Crosswalk Violation and DUI (Less Safe).

Officers responded to the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion in reference to a fight.

While speaking with our team, three teenagers stated that they had been fishing from the end of the pier, when their lines were cut by a man in a kayak. As the trio went to confront the kayaker, they were intercepted by another individual, and a fight ensued. During the course of the investigation, all four were placed under arrest and charged with Affray.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were “glossy” and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also a smell similar to that of an alcoholic drink seeping through his open window. When asked how much he had to drink that evening, the man replied, “None”.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI (.08 or more).
