It was just after midnight when one of our officers spotted a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Tybrisa without headlights.

After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes had a “glassy” appearance. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the driver replied that she had “half a shot of vodka”.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Use Headlights After Dark, Wrong Way on a One Way, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

Just a few hours later, one of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he mumbled when he spoke. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man claimed that he “doesn’t drink”.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane and DUI (Less Safe).

While on patrol, one of our officers spotted a vehicle sitting stationary at the intersection of 14th and Butler with a GREEN light. As the officer approached to investigate further, the vehicle made a wide right turn on red, failing to maintain its lane as it traveled northbound on Butler Avenue.

After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that it was occupied by the driver and a large dog. When asked why he was stopped at a green light, the man claimed that it was because he had been talking to the dog. During the course of their conversation, the officer began to suspect that the man was under the influence of an unknown substance.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device, Improper Right Turn, Failure to Maintain Lane and DUI (Less Safe).

Out of concern for the man’s animal, the officer allowed the dog to be transported to the Tybee Island Police Department alongside its owner and held it there until his release.

One of our officers responded to an address on Captain’s View in reference to a noise complaint.

During the course of the investigation, the officer found that the noise coming from the house did not rise to a level which violated local ordinance. As a result, a report was filed and no further action was taken during that time.

A man called to report that he lost his smartwatch in the ocean approximately three weeks prior. Since that time, the watch had been “pinging” at a local motel.

While conducting a follow-up investigation, one of our officers stopped by the motel and learned that the watch had indeed been turned in to lost and found. The officer then took custody of the watch and transported it to the Tybee Island Police Department for safekeeping. The caller was advised to contact our property custodians in order to make arrangements for its return.

A woman came to the Tybee Island Police Department to report a theft.

While speaking with one of our teammates, the woman stated that someone had withdrawn thousands of dollars from her bank accounts without her permission. A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

One of our officers stopped a golf cart for having a defective amber safety light.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were “glassy” and that there was an open container of alcohol in the back seat. When asked how much she had to drink that evening, the woman admitted to “one lemon drop shot” a couple of hours prior.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the cart while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Golf Cart Violations, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

Officers responded to a local bike rental shop in reference to a possible theft.

While speaking with our team, an employee provided them with surveillance footage of a man and woman stealing two E-bikes. While checking the area, officers located the suspects and successfully recovered one of the bikes. Ultimately, however, the store decided not to pursue criminal charges. As a result, a report was filed and no further action was taken during that time.

Our team was notified that a vehicle belonging to a wanted fugitive had been spotted by Flock license plate readers on the island.

After locating the vehicle, officers detained the driver and passenger until they were turned over to deputies from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.

A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

At approximately 12:33AM, officers of the Tybee Island Police Department responded to the area of Butler and Center Street in reference to a serious, single vehicle crash.

Once on scene, the officers learned that the vehicle left the roadway before striking a pedestrian crosswalk sign and two palm trees. Both the driver and their passenger were transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. The investigation was turned over to the Georgia State Patrol, and no further information will be released by our agency at this time.

Officers responded to a local motel in reference to damage to property.

While speaking with our teammates, the manager stated that a large delivery truck had entered the parking garage and gotten stuck. A report was filed, and both parties were provided with information for follow-up.

Our team responded to the 17th Street parking lot in reference to a possible domestic dispute.

During the course of the investigation, officers noticed that one of the suspects was the same man who had been caught on camera stealing a Yeti cooler earlier in the evening. Closer inspection revealed that the stolen cooler was inside of his vehicle.

He was then placed under arrest and charged with Theft by Taking. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed several glass pipes, earning him an additional charge of Possession of Drug Related Objects.
