A person came to the police department to turn in an identification card they found on the island. The card was then logged as found property and placed into our evidence room for safekeeping.

Officers responded to the local Post Office in reference to an open door. After conducting a sweep of the property and finding no one inside, they were able to secure the door.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Officers responded to the 1700 block of Chatham Avenue in reference to a suspicious person banging on the front door of a house.
While in the area, they encountered a man who matched the description provided by the original caller. While speaking with this man, our team noticed numerous signs that he was experiencing an altered state of consciousness, possibly brought on by drugs. At or around this same time, an officer located the man’s vehicle lodged into the dunes nearby. Closer inspection revealed that the engine was still hot, and that there were several nitrous oxide cans and open containers of THC drinks inside.
During the course of the investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He was then placed under arrest and charged with No Motorized Vehicles on the Beach, Disturbing Dune Vegetation, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe). Once the necessary paperwork was completed, he was transferred to the custody of emergency medical personnel and transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Officers responded to a short-term vacation rental on 17th place in reference to damage to property. While speaking with our team, the caller stated that a friend had been staying in property the day before when they found a bullet lodged into the floor. The caller stated that they had no idea who may have fired the bullet or exactly how long it had been there.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Officers responded to a rental property on Van Horne in reference to a possible theft. While speaking with our team, the caller stated that he had to terminate a rental agreement early due to a policy violation. After the tenants left, the caller conducted an inventory and found hundreds of dollars in property missing. While he declined to pursue charges, the caller believes that numerous items ranging from shower curtains to fish-shaped salt and pepper shakers were stolen.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers stopped a golf cart for traveling down Butler Avenue, a violation of local ordinance.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot and that she slurred her words as she spoke. Meanwhile, a strong smell similar to that of an adult beverage cascaded from within the cart. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman admitted to “two shots of Fireball”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the cart while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Golf Cart Violations and DUI (Less Safe).

Shortly after 3:00AM, one of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to maintain its lane.
During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that the driver was a juvenile who did not have a license. Both the driver and their passenger were then transported to the Tybee Island Police Department where they were released into the custody of a responsible adult.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.
