• A concerned citizen came to the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to found property. While speaking with our team, the complainant stated that a piece of mail was placed into their P.O. Box by mistake. After opening the envelope, they realized that it contained someone else’s driver’s license and brought it to the police department to turn in.

    After taking custody of the envelope, one of our officers delivered it to the appropriate address and turned the license over to its rightful owner. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • One of our officers responded to a local hotel in reference to found property.

    While speaking with our teammate, the manager provided her with a wallet which had been found on the property. The wallet was then transported to the Tybee Island Police Department, where it was placed into our Evidence Room for safekeeping.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.

    While talking to the driver, the officer was able to smell an odor similar to that of an adult beverage wafting through the open window. When asked, the woman admitted to “two drinks” that evening.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, and DUI (Less Safe).

    Officers responded to the beach near Inlet Avenue in reference to a vehicle stuck in the sand.

    Upon arrival, officers spotted the SUV at the waterline. Closer inspection revealed that it contained a parking pass from a local hotel. Using this information, officers were able to locate the driver and issue him a citation for having a vehicle on the beach.

    The SUV was later removed by a local wrecker service.

    Later that day, officers returned to the beach near Inlet Avenue in reference to a dog running off leash and “terrorizing” bystanders and birds.

    Upon their arrival, officers spotted the animal running along the sand and chasing birds. When asked for his identification, the dog’s owner refused to provide it to our team. After being informed that continued refusal would result in his arrest, the man chose handcuffs. He was then transported to the Tybee Island Police Department, where he was charged with Dog on the Beach, Dog at Large, and Obstruction.

    One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to maintain its lane.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot and that she slurred her words as she spoke. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink billowing from her breath.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

  • One of our officers responded to the area of Butler and Atlantic in reference to an improperly parked vehicle.

    Upon his arrival, the officer found a transit van partially blocking a lane of travel. Closer inspection revealed that the side mirror appeared to have already been struck and damaged by an unknown passing vehicle. All attempts to locate the owner were unsuccessful.

    As a result, the vehicle was towed from the scene.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding.

    While talking to the driver the officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic beverage seeping through her open window. When asked, the woman claimed that she not had any alcohol that evening.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI (.08 or more).

    One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having an expired registration.

    While talking to the driver, the officer spotted a plastic bag containing white powder and a straw in the center console. During a free air sniff, a narcotics detection K9 also provided a positive alert on the vehicle.

    While conducting a subsequent search based on probable cause, the officer found a plastic bag containing a rock-like substance believed to be Cocaine, a plastic bag containing marijuana, and another plastic bag containing pressed pills which field tested positive for Fentanyl. Both the drive and his passenger were placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and one count of Trafficking in Fentanyl.
