One of our officers responded to the City of Tybee Department of Public Works facility in reference to damage to property.
While speaking with our teammate, a DPW employee pointed out damage to the side of a city work truck. Upon inspection, the officer noted that the damage appeared consistent with a bullet hole.
According to the DPW employee, the hole had not been there prior to the truck being taken to a dealership in Savannah the week prior.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Later that day, we received a report in reference to a possible theft.
While speaking with one of our officers, the caller stated that someone had stolen a kayak from their property that same morning. The kayak is described as being a tan in color “Pelican” model, with blue camouflage seats. An officer responded to the 17th Street parking lot in reference to damage to city property.
While speaking with our teammate, a Parking Services employee pointed out damage to a nearby barricade pole. Upon inspection, the officer noticed that the pole was leaning, lifting up the surrounding asphalt as well.
Officers canvassed the area but did not locate any vehicles with matching damage. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

During Tybee Island Municipal Court, it was discovered that one of the attendees had an active warrant. He was then placed under arrest and transferred to the Chatham County Detention Center.

A woman contacted the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to lost property.
During a recent trip to the island, her husband stored his firearm in a drawer at their hotel. Upon their return home, they realized that the weapon had been mistakenly left behind. The woman then contacted the staff of the hotel, who told her that no one had turned the weapon in. A report was filed, and the firearm was entered into the Georgia Crime Information Center network.

Later that evening, two women reported being followed by a man on a motorcycle.
While speaking with our team, the women stated that they had simply been walking down the road, when a man on a bike began taking pictures and video of them. They further stated that the man informed them that he was going to “turn them into the Chatham County Police”, and that they were “going to get a $330 fine for coming down this street”.
A report was filed, and the women were provided with information for follow-up.

A woman contacted the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to a scam.
While speaking with our team, the woman stated that she had received a call from someone who identified themselves as “Bradley Miller”. During the course of their conversation, “Mr. Miller” claimed that the woman had failed to appear in court for two citations and was now required to pay over $2,000 for each. Armed with the knowledge that she had never received those citations; the woman knew not to provide the caller with any money or personal information.
A report was filed, and the woman was provided with follow-up information.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for a “Move Over” violation.
While talking to the driver, our teammate noticed the smell of marijuana floating through the open window. During a search of the vehicle based on probable cause, the officer found a firearm and several open containers of beer. When asked how much alcohol he had that day, the man admitted to “a couple”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He was then placed under arrest, and charged with a Move Over violation, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for traveling 49mph in a 30mph zone.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot and that she slurred her words as she spoke. He also caught a gentle whiff of an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through the open window. When asked how much alcohol she had that day, the woman admitted to “two beers”.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, however, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Speeding, Open Container, and DUI (.08 or more).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for driving the wrong way on a one way.
While talking to the driver, the officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana billowing through the open window. There were also two open cans of beer sitting in plain view within the center console. During a search of the vehicle based on probable cause, officers discovered marijuana and a handgun. A check of the weapon’s serial number through the GCIC computer system revealed that it had been reported stolen. The driver was then placed under arrest and charged with Theft by Receiving (Felony).
