While on patrol, one of our officers watched a vehicle make a quick turn without signaling. After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the signal arm attached to the steering column was completely broken off, and one of the taillights was busted. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that the man’s eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words as he spoke. When asked how much alcohol he had that evening, the man admitted to one “PBR” approximately an hour before.

When given the chance to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the man refused. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Defective Equipment and DUI (.08 or more).

One of our officers responded to the 1800 block of Butler Avenue in reference to damage to property. While speaking with our teammate, the victim stated that a semi-truck had struck and damaged a fence on her property. Upon closer inspection, the officer noticed that nearby street signs appeared to have been damaged as well.

During the course of the investigation, a witness came forward and provided the officer with a photo of the semi. With that photo in hand, our team was able to conduct a search of the FLOCK license plate reader system to positively identify the vehicle.

A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

One of our officers was approached by a concerned citizen who had found a phone. Using the phone’s voice commands, the officer was able to contact a family member of the owner and make arrangements for it to be returned.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and failing to maintain its lane. While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he slurred his words when he spoke.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding, Failure to Maintain Lane, Impeding Traffic Flow, Driving with Expired License, and DUI (Less Safe).

After being booked and released from custody, the man was seen visiting local bars and stumbling about in public.

Sometime later, another officer spotted the same vehicle pulling into the parking lot of a local motel. As he watched, the same man that was arrested earlier that evening stepped out of the driver’s seat. While approaching to investigate further, the officer could hear loud music blaring from within the vehicle. During the course of their subsequent conversation, the officer noticed that the man had trouble maintaining his balance and slurred his words as he spoke. There was also a smell similar to that of an alcoholic drink lingering about his body.

When asked if he was willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, the man refused. The officer then informed him that he was being placed under arrest. As the officer attempted to guide his arm behind his back, the man snatched away and assumed a fighting stance. He then threw a punch towards the officer’s face but missed.

As the officer drew his Taser, the man turned to run. After ignoring several commands to stop, he was tased. Once on the ground, the man continued to ignore commands and attempted to resist. After a brief struggle, however, he was once again placed under arrest.

During a subsequent search of the man’s vehicle, officers discovered what appeared to be MDMA, psychedelic mushrooms, and more than an ounce of marijuana. They also discovered two firearms, one of which had been reported stolen. After being taken to a local hospital, the man was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center where he was booked into custody on the charges of Open Container, DUI (Less Safe), Felony Obstruction, Possession of Marijuana (More than an ounce), Possession of a Controlled Substance (MDMA), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Psilocybin), Possession with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Theft by Receiving (Felony).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. While talking to the 20-year-old driver, the officer noticed that her eyes had a “glassy” and “watery” appearance. When asked how much alcohol she drank that evening, the woman admitted to having two shots of tequila about 20 minutes before the stop.

During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Speeding and DUI (Under 21).

While conducting an extra patrol of Memorial Park after hours, one of our officers found a man sleeping in the restroom.

He was then placed under arrest and charged with Loitering and Prowling.

Our team responded to two residences on 2nd Avenue in reference to reports of Entering an Auto. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that two individuals had rummaged through the victims’ vehicles earlier that morning. A debit card was taken from one vehicle and later used at two different locations within Chatham County.

A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

Officers responded to an address on Eagles Nest Drive in reference to Criminal Trespass. While speaking with our team, the homeowner stated that his neighbor had been coming onto his property and taking photos without permission. He also stated that the neighbor had posted both his name and address online. Officers then made contact with the neighbor and informed him that he would be subject to arrest if he ever returned.

A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

One of our officers responded to a short-term vacation rental in reference to found property. While speaking with our teammate, representatives of the rental company stated that a handgun had been found in the residence. The officer then took custody of the weapon and transported it to the Tybee Island Police Department for safekeeping.

Officers responded to the area of Tybrisa in reference to a man urinating in the street.

While talking to the suspect, our team noticed that he had trouble maintaining his balance and slurred his words as he spoke. After gathering information from witnesses, the officers placed the man under arrest and charged him with Public Indecency.
