One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign.

While talking to the teenaged driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were “glossy” and bloodshot. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting through his open window. When asked if he had any alcohol that date, the teen admitted to having some “earlier”. The officer then opened the door of the vehicle and asked the teen to exit. As he did so, the officer noticed a handgun in the door’s map pocket. When asked who the gun belonged to, the driver replied that it “wasn’t his”. The officer then gave the teen the opportunity to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, which he declined.

The driver was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Possession of Alcohol by a Minor, Possession of a Firearm by a Minor, Possession of a Fake ID, and DUI (Less Safe). His teenaged passenger was also placed under arrest, and charged with Possession of Alcohol by a Minor, Use of Alcohol by a Minor, and Possession of a Firearm by a Minor.

A woman called to report losing her North Carolina driver’s license on the beach. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Officers responded to a local condominium complex in reference to damage to property.

While speaking with our team, a representative of the management company stated that the door had been kicked in on one of the units within the previous 24 hours. Officers conducted a sweep of the condo but did not find anyone inside of the property.

A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

While on patrol, one of our officers spotted a vehicle traveling 46 mph in a 30-mph zone. After turning around to catch up to the vehicle, the officer found it sitting stationary at a green light, blocking the flow of traffic behind it. At that time, he initiated a traffic stop.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and “glossy”. When asked for his identification, the man claimed that he didn’t have it with him but provided a name and date of birth. During the course of their conversation, the officer became increasingly concerned that the man might have been under the influence and asked him to step out of the vehicle. When he repeatedly refused, he was physically removed from the car.

After placing he man under arrest, officers located his identification and realized that the name and date of birth he provided was incorrect. He was then charged with Speeding, Impeding the Flow of Traffic, Hands Free Violation, Giving False Name and Date of Birth to Law Enforcement, Driving While License Suspended, Obstruction, and DUI (Less Safe).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to stop for a stop sign, making an improper turn, and failing to maintain its lane.

While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and “glossy”. During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Improper Right Turn, Failure to Maintain Lane, Tint Violation, Suspended Registration, No Insurance, and DUI (Less Safe).

Around 10:30 PM, officers responded to a residence on 8th Street in reference to a prowler. While checking the perimeter of the property, our team found the suspect lying in a hammock on the back patio. When asked if he knew the owner of the property, the man admitted that he did not. He also stated that he had swam in the pool and was “just chilling” at the house. During the course of the investigation the suspect was placed under arrest and charged with Public Drunkenness and Loitering or Prowling.
