• One of our officers stopped a vehicle after receiving an alert from our FLOCK automatic license plate readers, in reference to expired registration.

    While talking to the driver, the officer learned that he had an active warrant through another jurisdiction. The driver was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for his non-local warrant.

  • A man came to the Tybee Island Police Department in reference to lost property.

    While speaking with one of our officers, the man stated that he had lost a bracelet on the beach near 7th Street.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • A man came to the Tybee Island Police Department to report damage to property.

    While speaking with one of our teammates, the man stated that he had struck a low-hanging tree with his work truck the day before.

  • A woman came to the Tybee Island Police Department to report lost property.

    While speaking with an officer, the woman stated that the wind blew her Tybee Island temporary parking pass out of her window while driving through Savannah.

    One of our officers responded to Inlet near Lovell in reference to a Hit and Run.

    According to the victim, she had been backing out of a parking space on Inlet, when she was struck by a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the one-way street. The other vehicle then fled the scene.

    Utilizing our FLOCK automatic license plate readers, officers were able to identify a possible suspect.

    A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

  • While on patrol, one of our officers spotted a vehicle traveling the wrong way on a one-way street.

    After stopping the vehicle, the officer noticed that the driver’s eyes were bloodshot. There was also an odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink billowing through her open window. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman admitted to having “three drinks” sometime earlier.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way, Open Container, and DUI (Less Safe).

    A woman came to the Tybee Island Police Department to report a theft.

    While speaking with one of our teammates, the woman stated that it appeared someone had installed malware in her computer and transferred over $8,000 from her business account.

    A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

    Officers responded to a local motel in reference to damage to property.

    While speaking with our team, the motel manager stated that a large truck had scraped against the motel sign, causing damage.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • While on patrol, one of our officers encountered a man peeing in public.

    After confronting the individual, the officer noticed that he was holding an open beer can, and that he slurred his words as he spoke. The man was then placed under arrest and charged with Public Drunkenness.

    While on foot patrol, one of our officers was approached by a woman who had found a driver’s license and several debit cards in a nearby restroom.

    Using the emergency contact information attached to the driver’s license, the officer was able to reunite the items with their rightful owner.

    A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were glassy and that she slurred her words as she spoke.

    Officers responded to the area of Butler and 2nd Street in reference to a motor vehicle collision.

    While speaking with our teammates, one of the drivers reported that he had been rear-ended after stopping for pedestrians in a marked crosswalk. He further stated that two passengers had gotten out of the at-fault vehicle and ran away from the scene on foot.

    While talking to the teenaged at-fault driver, officers noticed a strong odor similar to that of an alcoholic drink flowing through his open window. There was also a silver in color flask lying in plain view.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the teen had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Following Too Closely, Open Container, Possession of Alcohol by a Minor, Possession of Tobacco by a Minor, and DUI (Less Safe).

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having an expired registration.

    While talking to the teenaged driver, the officer noticed an odor similar to that of an adult beverage wafting from inside the vehicle. When asked if there was any alcohol in the vehicle, the driver admitted to having “Twisted Teas” in the back. When asked if there was anything else, she also admitted to having “a vape”.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the teen had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest, and charged with Expired Registration, Open Container, Possession of Alcohol by a Minor, Possession of Tobacco by a Minor, and DUI (Less Safe).
