• One of our officers received a report in reference to lost property. Whie speaking with our teammate, the caller stated that she lost her Apple Watch while on the beach near 12th Street. The officer then responded to the area in an attempt to locate the property but was unsuccessful. A report was filed, and the caller was provided with information for follow-up.

    One of our officers responded to the Tybee Island South Annex in reference to a city vehicle which had been damaged. While speaking with our teammate, a Parking Services Supervisor pointed out a long scrape down the side of one of their vehicles. According to the supervisor, the damage was inflicted while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied in the North Beach lot. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

    One of our officers received a report in reference to damage to property. While speaking with our teammate, the victim stated that his tire had been slashed while he was parked in the 14th Street lot the day before. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • Officers received an alert from our FLOCK license plate readers in reference to a wanted person on the island. While on patrol, an officer spotted the vehicle parked at a residence on Miller Avenue and noticed a person matching the suspect’s description standing nearby. After confirming that the person was indeed wanted, the officer placed them under arrest and transported them to the Chatham County Detention Center.

    One of our officers responded to Highway 80 near Polk in reference to a motor vehicle accident. While speaking with our teammate, the caller stated that another vehicle had “brake checked” him, causing him to collide its rear. According to the caller, the other vehicle had then left the scene. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description provided by the caller. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

  • Just before 2:00 AM, officers responded to the 1500 block of Butler Avenue in reference to reports of a naked man walking around the area. During the course of the investigation, our team spoke with multiple witnesses who all confirmed that they spotted a naked man walking around the island. One witness was able to provide officers with cell phone video of the man in front of a local motel. Another stated that he approached her to ask where he could “get a drink”. When she mentioned that he might need to put on clothes first, he asked if she wanted to have sex. After being shot down, he walked off in the direction of local bars. During the course of these conversations, officers learned that the man had been last seen getting into a semi-truck and driving south on Butler Avenue.

    While checking the area, officers located the truck in the 17th Street parking lot. While speaking with the driver, officers noticed that his eyes were “glossy” and that he was unsteady on his feet. When asked how much he had to drink that evening, the man replied that he had “a couple of Jack and cokes”. When asked if he would be willing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, he refused. The man was then placed under arrest, and charged with Public Indecency, Public Drunkenness, and DUI (Less Safe).

    Officers responded to an address in the 900 block of Butler Avenue in reference to a possible theft. While speaking with our team, the victim stated that the homeowner allows her to store paddleboards for her business under the house. When she arrived to pick up her boards that day, she realized that three boards and six paddles were missing. A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for diving the wrong way on Tybrisa, a one-way street.

    While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were “glossy” and that he slurred his words as he spoke. There was also a smell similar to that of an alcoholic drink wafting from his open window. When asked, the man admitted to having “one or two drinks” approximately 30 minutes prior.

    During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest. and charged with Wrong Way on a One Way, and DUI.

  • One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having a suspended registration. While speaking with the driver, the officer learned that his license was also suspended. Due to the man’s advanced age and various medical conditions, the officer allowed him to call a licensed driver instead of placing him under arrest. The man was then cited accordingly and allowed to leave the scene.
