Around 1:30 AM, one of our officers stopped a vehicle for having a defective headlight.
While talking to the 20-year-old driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were watery. When asked, the young man admitted to drinking alcohol earlier in the evening.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the driver had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Headlight Requirements and DUI (Under 21).

One of our officers responded to the area of the East Gate crossover in reference to a possible theft.
While speaking with our teammate, a man stated that he called a locksmith after losing his car keys on the beach. As the locksmith worked on his vehicle, the man walked down the street. Sometime after the locksmith left, the man noticed that a tool valued at over $2,000 was missing from his backseat.
A report was filed, and the victim was provided with information for follow-up.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for having a cracked windshield and a defective brake light.
During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that the driver had an active warrant through another jurisdiction. He was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to answer for his non-local warrant.

While on patrol, one of our officers was flagged down in reference to a damaged mailbox.
While speaking with our teammate, the complainant stated that someone had ripped her mailbox off of its post and thrown it into her yard.
A report was filed, and the complainant was provided with information to pass on to her landlord.

A woman came to the Tybee Island Police Department to report a theft.
While speaking with one of our officers, the victim stated that she mailed a check for $220.00 to pay a utility bill. After receiving her next bank statement, she noticed that same check had been altered and subsequently cashed in the amount of $6,100.
A report was filed, and the case remains under investigation.

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to use its headlights after dark.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that his eyes were watery. There was also an odor similar to that of an adult drink wafting through his open window. When asked, the man admitted to having two shots of Tequila about an hour before the stop.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the man had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Use Headlights After Dark and DUI (.08 or more).

One of our officers stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane.
While talking to the driver, the officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot and watery. When asked how much alcohol she had that evening, the woman admitted to two mixed drinks about two hours prior to the stop.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, the officer found additional evidence to suggest that the woman had been operating the vehicle while under the influence. She was then placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, Defective Tag Light, and DUI (.08 or more).

A short time later, another officer stopped a vehicle for speeding.
During the course of the investigation, the officer learned that the driver’s license was suspended. She was then placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

Officers responded to a short term vacation rental on 14th Street in reference to a noise complaint.
Upon their arrival, our team spotted numerous juveniles running from the area carrying open containers of alcohol. During the course of the investigation, officers spoke with an adult in charge of the rental and issued them a citation.
A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

While speaking with our teammate, the caller stated that she believed someone had stolen candy and a car key from her room. Management reviewed security footage and reported that no one else had entered the room.

Upon his arrival, the officer spotted a large group of juveniles running away from the scene.

An officer responded to the 17th Street parking lot in reference to a report of loud music and people dancing on cars.
Upon his arrival, the officer found that the parking lot was quiet.

An officer responded to a short-term vacation rental on 13th place in reference to a noise complaint.
Upon his arrival, the officer was able to hear loud music and yelling coming from the residence. During the course of the investigation, the officer located the person in charge of the rental and issued them a citation. A report was filed, and no further action was taken during that time.

Officers responded to the area of Butler and 13th in reference to a report of a fight involving a knife.
Upon the arrival of the primary officer, he spotted a woman yelling for help, and a man running away with an unknown object in his hand. Believing the object to be a knife, the officer gave chase while ordering the man to drop his weapon. As the man ran towards a crowd of bystanders, the officer drew his sidearm and instructed the man to drop his weapon or he would be shot. At that point, the man dropped the object on the ground and surrendered. Closer inspection revealed that the object was not a knife, but a cell phone.
During the course of the subsequent investigation, officers placed the man under arrest and charged him with Simple Battery, Possession of Alcohol by a Minor, Public Drunkenness, Disorderly Conduct, and Obstruction.
